Cinnamon toast is as beloved and all American as apple pie. We love the original but wish we could avoid all the table sugar. We figured out how. This compound butter combines our gooey, caramely dates with a pinch of cinnamon and citrus for a spreadable, sweet and delicious addition to toast, grilled pork, or roasted vegetables.
INGREDIENTS
1 stick unsalted butter
4 dates, softened with 1-2 T orange juice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon orange zest
INSTRUCTIONS
Soak dates in hot water until soft.
While dates soak, whip 1 stick of butter in a food processor until fluffy.
Add dates, cinnamon, salt and orange zest. Process until combined, scraping down sides of bowl regularly.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for soft butter. Or place on a piece of parchment paper and roll into a log. Twist ends to seal well.
Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
Slice into rounds and enjoy on toast, grilled pork or roasted vegetables.
