Description
Why Monarch Butterflies?
The snowbirds of the butterfly world, Monarch butterflies are known for the incredible mass migration that brings millions of them to California and Mexico each winter. These regal and iconic pollinators, a favorite of ours, visit California between October and March where they seek refuge in our moderate temperatures to overwinter. They are are the only butterflies that make such a massive journey—up to 3,000 miles.
But the Monarch butterfly is in trouble. Numbers of monarchs have decreased significantly over the last 20 years. Together we can save the monarch. In the United States, there is a massive effort to provide habitat for monarch butterflies, imperiled bumble bees and other pollinators.
We will donate $1.00 from each Monarch giftwrap to Monarch conservation. The Monarch Joint Venture is a partnership of federal and state agencies, non-governmental organizations, and academic programs working together to support and coordinate efforts to protect the monarch migration across the lower 48 United States.
