WHAT ARE YELLOW BARHI?

Bahri dates are a wonderfully sweet, medium sized, round date.ย  Barhi is one of a just a few cultivated varieties that are eaten and enjoyed when they are still yellow, firm and crunchy! ย  Most dates are too tannic to enjoy at this stage, but Barhi dates are lower in tannins so the sugary flavors shine thru.ย  Crunchy like an apple, sweet like cotton candy, yellow Barhi dates are available for just a few weeks in August and we are pleased to offer a limited amount of these for you to enjoy!

HOW TO STORE:

Once your dates arrive, keep them refrigerated.ย  If left at room temperature, Yellow Barhi, like all dates, will begin to soften and brown as they continue to ripen.ย  Fully ripened, brown Barhi are also very delicious! They have a bright brown sugar flavor and melt in your mouth texture.ย  Note that browning and soft spots are NOT ROT, this is the normal ripening of the date.ย  When fully ripe, Barhi are brown, soft and chewy like other date varieties.

HOW TO EAT:

Enjoy Yellow Barhi as a fresh snack, or chop them up and add them to a summer salad!ย  They are also delicious frozen and freezing is a great way to prolong enjoying them.

SHIPPING AND FULFILLMENT:

Due to the fresh and perishable nature we will ship orders once or twice per week only, usually on Monday or Tuesday, please allow 2-4 days for processing your order in addition to transit time.ย  We will ship Barhi USPS Priority Mail ONLY, which arrive in 1-3 days.ย  Requests for alternative carriers are accepted provided buyer 1) selects a 3 day service, and 2) pays the additional postage.

I wasn’t sure what I was buying, but ranch meladuco’s dried dates are the best I’ve ever had. So, I assumed these would be equally good. When they arrived, they were hard, crunchy, and left me with a dry aftertaste. They took some time to figure out. With time they soften and “ripen” and are beyond the most delicious things I’ve ever tasted_ sweet, tender, smooth, and leave you wanting more. I cannot wait for them to come back in season!!!!

Thanks for the feedback and we’re tickled you tried them! They are different and take a bit of getting used to when fresh and yellow (the tannins make them slightly astringent), but you are correct if you wait for them to ripen and brown you will be rewarded with the most succulent and meltingly sweet dates!

I love these dates because I get to enjoy 2 for 1. When they first arrive, they crunch like an apple and have a dry, slightly sweet, clean taste. I’ll usually split my shipment so that half are refrigerated to stay pale yellow and crunchy, the second half I remove from the refrigerator to let them continue ripening until they become “ugly”, sweet and almost syrupy – fantastic with a cheese plate or with plain Greek yogurt. This year I received them as a gift from someone I had gifted them to a few years ago.
